It was a gray day on the chesapeake bay: quiet, contemplative, and gentle, kind of like the waterfront’s breeze, like sophia and dan’s love. She wore vintage from head (literally—just wait until you see her hat) to toe; he looked at her with such tenderness, it’s hard not to love her, too. after portraits against the cattails, a hotel room ketubah signing, and a bayside ceremony, the newlyweds and their crew gathered underneath a moody-cool sailcloth tent. Misty linens were punched up with green-and-eggplant orchids; ghost chairs carried the modern vibe. The sky brought the color: a massive rainbow stretched up and over the reception tent just as dinner was served, cutting through the gray as it gave way to an east coast golden hour.

Vintage elegance, moody skies, and a rainbow that stole the show.

The couple wore simple suiting for a casual evening on the bayfront. Their welcome party began by the pool and concluded under a lit-up pergola, where they held speeches and dancing.

The Night Before

Sophia redesigned her mother’s wedding dress for the big day, resulting in a drop-waist ball gown with a lace underlay.

The Design

The evening’s final act took place under a sprawling sailcloth tent, where tables dressed with textural gray linens and topped with eggplant- and chartreuse-hued blooms were arranged around a circular, wood-paneled bar.

The Look

Sophia and Dan posed for portraits on the lawn, where common reeds and cattails swished and whispered iin the background. “These are literally the most beautiful photos of me that exist—and they are 100 percent, without a doubt, the most beautiful shots of Dan and me. No one has to take our picture again,” laughs the bride.

“Nikki documented our love. I think it’s the most gorgeous album of all time—but I’m biased, obviously.”

Cocktail hour unfolded against the chesapeake bay; guests roamed the property after filling their plates with oysters, ricotta toasts, and more.

The bride opted for a vintage hat with a birdcage veil for the ceremony, which she commissioned from a milliner in Los angeles. the hat caused a stir during the breezy reception; sophia flung it off before she and dan walked back up the aisle.

A. Cloudy, mercurial skies parted just in time for dinner, giving way to a crystal-clear rainbow and the golden hour of all golden hours.

“I revisited our wedding photos again (and again) over the last year. So much joy. i’m Discovering shots I hadn’t seen before and I’m really blown away. nikki’s work has such sensitivity—Attention to all the little things. I don’t think anyone has an album like mine. she is a rising star and her style is so unique to her and how she treats people. Sensitive, meticulous, and observant, without feeling staged—so subtle, honest, maybe a little bit irreverent, and kind. This is all very clear to me when looking at this collection.”
