Naomi and Christian’s engagement session was held in my Baltimore studio. The couple is no stranger to the camera, and I first met them during an editorial shoot at Assateague Island in Delaware. Since then, I’ve also worked with them for a commercial shoot…because they’re models. Each time I have them in front of my camera, it’s just a fun time, and it feels like photographing old friends at this point.
They decided on two looks for their engagement session. The first look was a relaxed pair of jeans with white shirts (a tank top and t-shirt) and minimal jewelry details, while the second look was a head to toe jean outfit with weathered jackets and some fun sunglasses. During their engagement photoshoot, we first played with the natural light in the studio, focusing on different lighting options (even light vs. hard highlight and shadow) before incorporating dramatic direct flash that felt almost like a spot light.
One of my favorite things about photographing this couple is not only the way they look at each other, but also the clear affection and emotional connection that they have–and how easy that comfort is to capture.
They will we later this fall in Richmond, Virginia.
