Aspen in early spring holds a kind of quiet magic. The mountains are still wrapped in snow, but there’s a softness in the air — a hint that the seasons are beginning to turn. It was in that quiet space between winter and spring, on April 1st, that Brett asked Naomi to marry him.

Before Aspen, there was a studio session. That’s where I first met Naomi and Brett — two people who immediately felt easy to be around. We spent the afternoon creating, laughing, and chatting, and by the end, it felt like we had known each other longer than just a few hours. A few weeks later, Brett reached out with a message that meant the world: he was planning a proposal in Aspen and wanted me to be there to document it.

Being trusted with such a personal, pivotal moment is something I’ll never take for granted.

Planning a Proposal in Aspen: Why Hotel Jerome Was the Perfect Setting

Their story started the way many good ones do — quietly, at work. Five years ago, they crossed paths as they were building their careers, a friendship unfolding into something deeper, steadier, and more enduring. When it came time to propose, Brett wanted a place that reflected that — classic, meaningful, and beautiful in its simplicity.

Hotel Jerome — a historic Aspen landmark dating back to 1889 — became the perfect setting. Although Naomi and Brett didn’t have a personal tie to the hotel, its character, its views, and its quiet, timeless energy made it feel exactly right for the moment they were about to step into.

The day unfolded gently — slow morning explorations through Aspen’s old streets, light slipping through the trees, history stitched into every corner. We weren’t just documenting a proposal; we were telling the story of a day — the town, the atmosphere, the details worth remembering.

Meanwhile, the team at Carolyn’s Florals created a stunning setup on the hotel’s mountain-facing balcony. Soft blue and white hydrangeas gave the scene a fresh, romantic feeling without overwhelming the natural beauty around them.

When the moment arrived, Brett led Naomi onto the balcony. The mountains stood quietly behind them, the air turning golden with late afternoon light. He reached for a sterling silver antique ring box — something chosen with care, with the idea that it might one day be passed down — and got down on one knee.

And right as he began to speak, it started to snow.

Not a storm, but a gentle snowfall — tiny flakes catching the light, as if the mountains themselves had decided to mark the moment. Naomi said yes. In that snow-dusted stillness, they hugged, cried, and laughed — taking in the beginning of something entirely new.

Afterward, they celebrated with champagne and sweets on the balcony, followed by a relaxed dinner at Matsuhisa Sushi Aspen — ending the day the same way it had unfolded: easy, joyful, fully present.

Capturing the Magic: A Snow-Dusted Aspen Engagement

This proposal wasn’t about grand theatrics. It was about intention — the choice of a place that felt right, the flowers that softened the scene, the antique ring box that carried more than just a ring. Even the unexpected snow — the kind of magic you can’t plan — felt like a gift.

Naomi and Brett’s engagement was a reminder that some of the most meaningful stories unfold quietly — with care, with heart, and with a little bit of wonder.

Capturing it all — the soft light, the quiet emotion, the fleeting snow — was a gift I’ll always be grateful for.
